岭格萨尔王诞生于1038年(藏历****饶炯土虎年)，其父为岭国幼系森钦王，其母为郭萨拉姆。时年正值阿底峡尊者57岁，大译师玛尔巴27岁。格萨尔王卒于公元1119年（藏历第二饶炯土猪年）。

格萨尔年幼时称其为觉如，由于其母郭萨拉姆不是森钦的正房，母子二人只好住在森钦王帐房附近的一个小帐篷里，看起来日子过得非常清贫。当觉如长到六岁后，经常做一些意想不到的事情与叔父达绒绰通王作对。依照达绒王的请求，岭王召集岭国的大臣及各级官员一致决定将觉如母子驱逐出岭地。1045年觉如离别岭地，来到玛麦玉龙松多住了下来。其后由于当时的岭总管年事已高，到了要决定究竟由岭国的长中幼三系中的谁来担任岭王，由谁来迎娶噶佳罗家的女儿珠姆的时候了。由于内部分歧很大，**后决定通过赛马来确定岭王的人选，并决定所有属于岭家血统的人都有权参加赛马，而且说明所有岭族的人都要通知到，不得有任何遗漏。

公元1049年(藏历土牛年)觉如母子住在玛麦玉龙松多时，由岭幼系专门派人给觉如通知赛马事项。觉如母子生活虽艰辛，但觉如有一匹枣骝骏马。由于命运的安排和神的预言等多方面的因素，觉如来到岭地，参加了赛马，获得成功，于1050年一举登上了岭王的宝座，并授予岭格萨尔王的称号。当时正处藏地分裂时期，在藏区有崇尚本教而仇视佛教的诸如象雄和拉大克等部落，邻近的降地和所波地区黑恶势力残害生灵。格萨尔用武力来征服这些邪恶的势力，并弘扬行善积德的佛法，为众生造福。此后许多智者以他的业绩为基础创作了脍炙人口的英雄史诗，记载了他征服十八大宗和二十五小宗的光辉业绩。还有许多普通人得到神秘的传授而成为格萨尔王传的说唱艺人。 

岭格萨尔王的出生地在四川省甘孜藏族自治州德格县境内岭仓岔岔寺附近的阿须草原上，有一个叫做吉苏雅格康多的地方，那里两水交汇潺潺响，两个草坪如铺毡，两岩相对如箭羽，就在一个如巨蛙的岩石旁，在龙王祖那的财宝库的****处，岭格萨尔王降生了。那里至今还留存有觉如消灭魔鬼黑鸦三兄弟时留下的身影遗迹，有神马的蹄印，有汉妃搭帐篷的遗迹，在扎那隆有被觉如降服的岗巴然扎的修行洞和降服的遗迹，有在戏穷尼比峡谷战胜恶魔克策如鲁的遗迹，在吉矣满隆沟安东山的一个叫郭达的城堡遗址处有觉如母子住过的遗迹等等至今都可以看到，此外还有重建的格萨尔王纪念馆，馆中塑有格萨尔王为首的三十位英雄、以查象丹玛为首的鹞鹰狼三勇士、以甲察为首的七精英、以梵天为主的岭的八大神、以森姜珠姆为首的邻国八女杰以及八十大成就者等的塑像。馆中还藏有许多珍贵文物，让人目不暇接。在格萨尔纪念馆旁边还塑有一尊世界上堪称****的格萨尔的响铜塑像。　　

在格萨尔的故里有不同凡响的雄伟壮观的高山，有清凉透澈的杂曲河，有鲜花盛开的草原，有生长着香味四溢的各种树木的森林，牛马羊群自由嬉戏，五彩帐篷点缀着草原，这里的姑娘美丽小伙英俊，不论是谁只要一到这个地方就会流连忘这，留下深刻的记忆。德格人民翘首以待，热烈欢迎各位到格萨尔的故里来参观访问。

Introduction of King Ling Gesar’s Hometown

The King Ling Gesar was born in 1038．His father was the Senchen King of the youth family of the Ling area,and his mother was Gosa Lhamo．At that time，Atisa was just 57 years old，and the great translator Marpa was 27．King Gesar died in 1119．When Gesar was young，he'was called Joru．He and his mother had to stay in a small tentby near Senchen King's grand tent because his mother was not Senchen’s first wife,and they lived a poor life．At the age of six Joru began to do something unexpected against his uncle King Takrong Trotung．The King Ling called all of the officials together at the reguest of King Do and made a unanimous decision to expel he and his mother．In 1045,Joru left his hometown and moved to Masmai Yulungsomdo．Later on,for the man，who was in charge of the Ling area，was too old，it was time to decide which one of the three families to be the King of Ling area，and to marry Brugmo，the daughter of Gakyalo family．Because the family couldn’t make a decision，the family had to choose the proper person by a horse race for the the diffenences in the family,and announced that all the men of the family were qualified for the race and everyone should be noticed．In 1049，Joru was sent a message about the race. Jora had a red horse although their life was harsh，Because of destiny and the omen of Buddha,Joru came to the Ling area，he took part in the race and won the race and became the King of the Ling area．Then he renamed himself as King Ling Gesar．It was war time inside Tibet，there were many tribes wer hostile to Buddhism like Zhang-zhung and Ladakh，and their neignbours Jang and Sobo Slaughtered the local People．King Gesar conquered these evil tribes by force，and carried forward Buddhism．After that,many sages created heroic epics based on his achievement．The epic recorded his great achievements of conquering 18 big tribes and 25 small ones．And a lot of ordinary people were imparted mystically to become the narrators of Gesar.

King Ling Gesar was born in Ashu grassland near Lingcaca manistery in Dege county ,Ganzi Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture，Sichuan Province,the place is called Jisuyaggikamdo. There are two rivers joining gurgling，two lawns spreading like felt，two rocks standing opposite like arrows．Right near a rock lik a giant frog，at the back door of the treasure storeroom of the Naga King,was the King Ling Gesar born. Till now,there are trace about Gesar，for example，Joru fought against the three brothers of devil black crow，footprint of the sacred horse,and the site where the Han’s wife established her tent．In Zhanaglong，there are the cave where the Gambarazha，who was subdued by Joru，did exercise，and the trace of being subdued．In Xiqongnibi Canyon，there are traces about beating the devil Kecerulu．Nearby the site of the Goda Castle in Jiyimanlong trench，Andong mountain，there is the trace of Joru and his mother’s residence．Besides these，the memorial of King Gesar was rebuilt，and there are statues of thirty heroes led by the King Gesar，three warriers of snipe，eagle and wolf led by Tsashiangdanma，seven elites led by gyatsa,eight gods of Ling led by Brahma，eight women of Ling led by Sengjam Brugmo and the eithty great achiever. And there are too many precious antique to see，there is the highest copper statue of King Gesar in the world beside the Memorial．In Gesar’s hometown，there are grand mountains，clear Zaqu river，grassland with flowers，woods with fragrance，stocks playing around，colorful tent scattering，girls pretty and boys handsome．Whoever come to Doge，he will be impressed and linger on with no thought of leauing. The people of Dege are looking forward to your visit to the hometown of Gesar.
